A preview of Cork Folk Festival this September

Cork is getting geared this September up for its annual gathering of folk and traditional musicians. The southern capital once again will host a spectacular line up of gifted musicians over the weekend 28th sept-1st October.  In 2016 ‘The Lonely Planet’ described the 38th year old festival as, ‘Pulling pub backrooms and grand old theatres into service for fruitful traditional music that ranges from the foot-stomping to the hushed’. Cork city is the perfect destination if you a looking for an urban holiday break with its beautiful venues, hotels, bars and restaurants all in close proximity to the city centre.

The Everyman Palace will definitely be hushed for the 1st appearance at the Cork festival by folk troubadour, DONOVAN.  Donovan Leitch burst onto the musical scene in 1965 with the folk songs “Catch the Wind” and “Colors,”.

Another troubadour to make an appearance at this year’s festival will be, Andy Irvine, formerly of Planxty & Sweeney’s Men, Andy is a member of Mozaik, and Usher’s Island along with Donal Lunny. He has played & recorded with Paul Brady, Christy Moore, Bill Whelan and Davy Spillane, and shared the bill in Dublin with Billy Bragg, celebrating the Woody Guthrie Centenary.
