37th Cork Folk Festival 29th Sept-2nd October

The Cork Folk Festival is back this September 29th till October 2nd in Cork City, Ireland’s southern musical capital. The festival will showcase Ireland’s best folk and traditional acts in 12 venues around the city. The festivals highlights include; Mick Flannery, a refreshingly unassuming artist from Blarney whose sole focus seems to be on his craft, song-writing. Plus Lynched whose repertoire spans humorous Dublin music-hall ditties, street-songs and classic ballads from the Traveller tradition.
As expected traditional musicians will feature strongly at the 4 day festival including the un-miss able Buttons & Bows featuring brothers Séamus and Manus McGuire, Jackie Daly and Garry O’Briain plus We Banjo 3 from Galway who will feature brothers Enda & Fergal Scahill, Dave & Martin Howley and Garry O ‘Meara.
The festival will also present the premier of a new musical project called Atlantic Arc Orchestra, under musical director, Dónal Lunny (Moving Hearts) the band features; Pauline Scanlon (Lumiere), Jarlath Henderson (Uilleann Pipes), Aidan O’Rourke (Lau), Padraig Rynne (Notify), Ewen Vernal and John Blease.
The line up continues with Scots troubadour, Dick Gaughan and gifted English songwriter Steve Tilston. Plus a very special concert, The Compánach Concert- The Music of Ireland with Fintan Vallely, Gerry O Connor, Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, Roisín Chambers, Sibéal Davitt and photographer, Jacques Piraprez Nutan .
The packed festival also includes the group Socks in the Frying Pan, trad singer Barry Gleeson, Warwick Folk Festival, Cork Singers’ & Pipers Clubs, Lee Delta Blues Club, Seamus Creagh Tribute Concert and Stíleanna- Concerts in Fiddle, Pipes, Flute, Accordion/Concerting & Song.
