This Polish-based ensemble play Macedonian, Bulgarian and other Balkan music with charged energy, a flair for jazz and folk, and the curiosity of non-natives discovering a secret code. The instruments they play include the kaval (Balkan Flute), accordion, bagpipe, bass and the tambura (Balkan Bouzouki/mandolin).

The band has great interest in modern-acoustic interpretations of ethnic music from the Balkan region, especially those of Bulgaria and Macedonia. On Fryderykata they use the elements of these traditions in a tribute to the great composer Chopin. Many classical composers were influenced by ethnic music and used traditional melodies in their work. Sarakina does it the other way around they use the compositions of Chopin to create new-traditional style music.

This Project has been co-finansed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and Cultural Heritage as part of Fryderyk Chopin – Promesa programme with the co operation of the Polish Embassy of Dublin.
